Pilates and core stability seek to train the body as an integrated whole; focusing on core muscle engagement, upper and lower body strength along with flexibility, lateral breathing and good posture.
Originally created for rehabilitation purposes, the importance of building, maintaining & strengthening core muscles is now known to be vital for assisting with all types of movement and for all ages and abilities.
Building on the foundation laid by Joseph Hubertus Pilates (9 December 1883 – 9 October 1967) who introduced his unique concept in his 1954 book book 'Return To Life Through Contrology' , the "Living Pilates" programe I teach works with the body holistically, taking into account the classic pilates priciples of lateral breathing, concentration, control, centering, precision and flow.
Where appropriate, I utilse supplementary equipment to provide resistance, aid coordination and enhance the overall effectiveness of exercises with the overarching aim of building pilates principles into clients' every day life and activities.
On a bespoke one to one basis, I also conduct postural assessments (static and dynamic) to advise clients on the optimum exercises for their specific postural needs and movement patterns.
